Kilifi Creek, KenyaA Coastal Refuge in KilifiWhere the Indian Ocean meets the mangroves

A quiet, owner-run ecolodge on the Kilifi creek — locally rooted, gently designed, easy on the planet.

A coastal Kenya retreat, waiting to be explored

Discover the Lodge

Tucked between the Kilifi creek and the Indian Ocean on the Swahili coast, Distant Relatives is a small ecolodge built lightly from local timber and thatch. Adventurers, slow-travel families, volunteers and anyone seeking unhurried days are exactly the people we host best.

Our Earth-first Philosophy

Distant Relatives was built around the creek, not on top of it. Local timber, thatch and craftsmanship; a permaculture kitchen garden that feeds the kitchen; a Kenyan team paid properly and trained deeply. Every choice we make is a small vote for a coast that stays as it is.

Our Story

We came for three nights and stayed for three weeks. The team treated us like family, the creek became our morning ritual, and the food from the garden was the best thing we ate in Kenya. We will be back, and soon.
